REGULATORY ROUND UP – EU LAUNCHES SECURITY UNION PROPOSALS FIGHTING CROSS-BORDER CRIME

THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) has launched a wide-range of initiatives to fight fraud, counterfeiting and corruption as it seeks to help law enforcers gain an advantage against cross-border crime.
A key element of this work is the so-called EU ‘security union’, about which proposals were tabled by the European Commission in April. This included proposals to create two new kinds of European orders that judicial authorities can make to insist on the exchange and preservation of digital evidence required in police inquiries.
