AUSTRALIA CHALLENGES CANADA WINE TRADING RESTRICTIONS AT THE WTO

Australia has today (January 16) requested formal talks with Canada at the World Trade Organisation (WTO), where it will pressure the Canadian government to liberalise wine trading restrictions in four of Canada’ provinces. These are British Columbia (BC), Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. The Australian government has argued that wine distribution, licensing and sales rules in these jurisdictions discriminate against imported wine, breaking the WTO’s General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).
