THE BRITISH government has launched detailed public consultation into its proposals to force foreign-owned organisations to declare if they are the owner of UK-based property. These rules would also tell these declarants to publicly register their beneficial owners. Interested parties have until May 17 to give their views, which will be assessed as the government drafts proposed legislation that would close a transparency loophole – at present, such declarations are only required of UK companies.
