EUROPOL FLAGS CRYPTOWARE AND DOCUMENT FRAUD AS KEY THREATS

Cryptoware (ransomware using encryption) has become the leading malware in terms of threat and impact, according to Europol’s March 9 European Union (EU) Serious and Organised Crime Threat Assessment 2017 (SOCTA). The report, which Europol director Rob Wainwright said “represents the outcome of the largest data collection on serious and organised crime ever undertaken in the EU,” also shows that document fraud has emerged as a key criminal activity linked to Europe’s ongoing migration crisis.
