VALUE OF REPORTED UK FRAUD HITS FIVE YEAR HIGH, SAYS BDO

The total value of money involved in major fraud cases reported in the UK in 2016 hit a five-year high at GBP2 billion (USD2.4 billion), the latest analysis from accountants BDO has revealed. Yet the number of fraud cases recorded involving sums exceeding GBP50,000 (USD61,300) - the scale of frauds assessed by BDO - fell last year to 504 from 519 in 2015, meaning that the amount of money rose 35.4% to GBP3.9 million (USD4.7 million), also a five-year high.
