EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT CALLS FOR WIDER EPPO INVESTIGATIVE POWERS

The European Parliament has backed a resolution calling for the future European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) to have greater scope to probe potential fraud than in the draft regulation that the European Union (EU) Council of Ministers is expected to agree before the end of this year. MEPs want the EPPO to investigate value added tax fraud, scams affecting spending programmes where EU funding is under 50% of the co-financing, plus multiple offences by the same suspects, and mixed offences, for instance involving fraud and money laundering.
