EU PREDICTS FALL IN GAS AND OIL CONSUMPTION IN NEW CARBON EMISSIONS BENCHMARK

THE PROPORTION of energy consumed within the European Union (EU) through oil and gas will hold steady over the next 35 years, although consumption volumes will decline, the European Commission has predicted. In a new detailed set of benchmark references projecting energy, transport and greenhouse gas emissions trends in the EU up until 2050, the Commission said that gas’ proportion of EU energy consumption would rise from 24% to 25% between 2005 and 2050, looking at the current 28 member states.
