THE EUROPEAN Commission has called for significant globalisation of Internet governance. It has released a detailed policy paper that suggests a clear timetable over the next two years for globalising the currently US-based ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) and its associated IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority). The Commission also wants a strengthened global Internet Governance Forum.
