ANXIETY is growing in the European Union (EU) confectionery industry that Britain’s proposed front-of-pack colour-coded labelling scheme could upset the EU market by distorting competition and undermining Europe’s much-vaunted common market. The UK government’s department of health is to bring in nutrition labelling rules by this summer that will give prominent billing to the level of fat, saturated fat, salt, sugar and calories in confectionery and other food products.
