A GROUP of reduced calorie fats - salatrims - has been approved by the European Commission as novel food ingredients in the European Union (EU). They are triacylglycerides used in bakery products and confectionery, particularly chocolate, for products aimed specifically at dieters. Warning labels must be posted saying that excessive consumption could cause digestive problems, which tests showed were caused when consumers ate more than 30g per day.
