EU SUGAR DELAY

DETAILED reforms to the European Union's (EU) sugar common market organisation may not be released until May 2005. The European Commission told the EU Council of Ministers "implementation of the reform (would now be) later than initially envisaged". Brussels did however say sugar producers had agreed the status quo must change, and the existing system was "not sustainable". Also talks will be held with countries exporting sugar to the EU to make a new system World Trade Organisation-compatible.
