EU food manufacturers could finally secure cheaper sugar prices, after the European Commission announced its reform of the EU sugar common market organisation. It has proposed a 39% cut in the guaranteed price for EU sugar within a system of quotas, which will continue until at least 2015. Sugar producers have attacked the move, but consumer associations favour it.
