EPA POLLUTION WARNING

THE USA'S Environmental Protection Agency has warned against eating more than half a serving a month of Atlantic salmon and trout raised in federal hatcheries in the north-east United States because of high levels of dioxins and PCB's. This follows tests commissioned by the US Fish and Wildlife Service that revealed significant contamination - probably from fish feed - in five hatcheries that release into the wild fish not needed for the fish farming industry. These levels were high enough for an EPA warning, said the agency.
