The European Commission has announced that in the interest of consumer safety a symbol in the form of an open cream jar must be carried by all cosmetic products with a life of more than 30 months. There are already laws covering products with a durability of less than 30 months. The new symbol, required from 11 March 2005, must be accompanied by an indication of how long the product will remain suitable for use once opened.
