EU ZOONOSES FIGHT PROPOSAL

THE EUROPEAN Commission has released plans to spend Euro 4.8 million over the next six years on actions specifically dedicated to fighting certain animal or food-based diseases (zoonoses). The budget would be split into Euro 800,000 per year and would be focused on a set list of 20 diseases. These WOULD include bird flu, campylobacteriosis, listeriosis, salmonellosis, verotoxigenic e coli, rabies, anthrax, bluetongue, swine fever, bovine tuberculosis and TSEs, amongst other dangerous zoonoses.
