EU OFFERS ROUTE TO SCALE DOWN BSE CASE MONITORING

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) Council of Ministers has approved new detailed guidelines allowing EU member states to scale down existing comprehensive monitoring of BSE cases in cattle, sheep and goats. This move follows pressure from member states, such as Britain, who claim they do not need such rigorous controls now the disease is largely under control.
