IN the latest sign of a movement towards striking a deal over unbundling, the European Parliament industry committee has backed the European Commission's proposed compromise that would allow large energy utilities retain de jure control of networks and production facilities. MEPs however indicated they would need belt-and-braces assurances that the autonomy of network operators would be respected by large incumbent energy players.
