THE EUROPEAN Commission has asked utilities with research departments to apply for Euro 147 million of energy research grants under the European Union's (EU) wealthy Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). Studies developing technology and good practice in renewable energy; clean coal technologies; smart energy networks; energy efficiency and savings; and high efficiency poly-generation. The application deadline October 8.
