A TEAM of international scientists, based at Ohio State University, USA, has genetically engineered a developing country staple root crop to contain enough vitamins, minerals and protein to feed the poor with a days worth of nutrition in a single meal.
The cassava plant (Manihot esculenta) is the primary source of calories for roughly 800 million people worldwide but although plentiful, it is composed almost entirely of carbohydrates.
