FAST-TRACK EU HARMONISED SYSTEM FOR TEXTILE AND CLOTHING LABELLING PROPOSED

BY KEITH NUTHALL

A FAST-TRACK procedure for the European Union's (EU) mandatory classification of new yarns and fibres has been proposed. Under existing EU legislation, new yarns and fibres must be officially named and classified at EU level, with ministers and the European Parliament being consulted, then member states adopting the classification: a laborious system. Now the European Commission wants powers to authorise new EU yarn and fibre names itself.
