BY KEITH NUTHALL EUROPEAN Union (EU) member states are free to set airport ground level noise limits, but where such rules prevent airlines accessing a runway, other mitigation measures must be considered, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled. Judges said in such instances, conditions imposed by the EU airport noise directive 2002/30 kick in.
