BY KEITH NUTHALLTHE EU Council of Ministers, (justice and home affairs), has agreed rules governing how national governments, police forces and Europol cooperate to prevent counterfeiting of Euro notes and coins, when they are introduced from January, an event considered as a potential opportunity for criminals to launder large sums of money. The council approved the substance of a draft EU Decision saying how counterfeits should be analysed and how information on counterfeiting inquiries should be circulated.
