BIRD FLU VACCINES

THE EUROPEAN Food Safety Authority (EFSA) wants vaccinations used to eradicate bird flu, in a European Union outbreak. Vaccination against the virulent H5 and H7 subtypes sweeping Asia "has only had a relatively limited use", but the disease's risk means EFSA wants it used in conjunction with biosecurity measures, such as protecting livestock from wild birds. *http://www.efsa.eu.int/science/ahaw/ahaw_opinions/1145/ahaw_op_ej266_avianinfluenza_en2.pdf
