EFSA SAYS AFLATOXIN LIMIT IN NUTS CAN BE RAISED SAFELY

THE EUROPEAN Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has concluded current tough European Union (EU) safety limits for aflatoxins in processed almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios can be raised from 4 µg/kg. Aflatoxin contamination causes cancer, experts fear, but the EU is under pressure to raise its limit towards an existing international 15 µg/kg limit for unprocessed almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios.
