UK-FUNDED STUDY SAYS GIVE AIDS PATIENTS ANTIRETROVIRALS EARLIER

A UK Medical Research Council-funded study has concluded that HIV-1 infected patients should receive combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) earlier than at present. Delaying combination therapy until a CD4 cell count of 251-350 cells per µL rather than 351-450 cells led to an additional 28% of patients developing AIDS and dying said The Lancet-published paper.
