PETROCANADA posted second-quarter profits of CDN$588 million, 80 per cent higher than last year, but suffered problems with its new McKay River steam-assisted oilsands plant, where production fell to 5,000 barrels a day from 13,000 in the first quarter of this year because of an unexpected six-week shutdown.
