MEPS GIVEN WATCHDOG ROLE ON NUTRITIONAL FOOD FAST-TRACK AUTHORISATIONS

EUROPEAN Union (EU) ministers have approved a revised EU directive on market authorisations for food products for particular nutritional uses, such as energy bars and vitamin-enriched confectionery. The European Commission can now approve for up to two years sales of special nutritional food products not complying with relevant EU ingredient rules. However, the European Parliament must be informed.
