EUROPEAN COMMISSION ALLOWS SMALL AIRPORTS TO RECEIVE OPERATING AID

THE EUROPEAN Commission announced yesterday (Thursday Feb 20) that airports with less than 700,000 passengers per year will be allowed to receive public money to support their operating costs if they are not profitable. The measure, which will be reviewed in five years’ time, is part of a new set of rules saying how European Union (EU) can spend public money to support airports.Those with less than three million passengers a year will have 10 years to become profitable, EU competition Commissioner Joaquín Almunia said.
